bytepark took three individual websites to create one athletics portal. On behalf of Deutsche Leichtathletik Marketing GmbH, the exclusive marketing agency of the German Athletics Association (DLV), bytepark integrated the three websites: www.leichtathletik.de, www.leichtathletik.tv and www.deutscher-leichtathletik-verband.de to form one platform.
The Concept
In order to integrate three individual websites into one portal, completely new concepts had to be developed for the design, structure and technical basis of the website. In addition to a modern, clear-cut look, the focus was primarily on usability and performance. This included implementation as a responsive web design based on HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript web standards.
The result of this comprehensive redesign is an attractive, user-friendly portal dedicated to athletics. An extensive news section forms the core element of the website. All reports here can be enhanced with photo galleries. News and videos can also be tagged in order to suggest related content to the user. The new Athletics 360° section offers a panorama view with video and report suggestions. A selection of constantly changing tops is presented here.
DLV's own association website and the www.leichtathletik.tv URL were successfully integrated into the new platform. An HTML5 player with flash fallback handles the moving images in the TV section. All existing videos were converted to a corresponding format and included on the new website. A dedicated search function helps users to find their way through the huge video library.
Visitors can, of course, also find the latest dates for events and competitions along with results and records. The data comes from an API with an external competition database and is then edited and output in the backend. Online marketing is implemented by integrating banners from an external service provider. The website also offers various services, such as the multi-discipline calculator and a press section with all dates and an online accreditation service.
